Web Site Redesign
I
redesigned the Graduate College Web site, www.grad.iit.edu,
at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) during 2003.
I began by examining the user types and I interviewed
IIT staff members and students to obtain their input. I used
Dreamweaver MX, HTML, and Adobe Photoshop to redesign the
Web site, which contained more than 200 pages. I designed
each page and subsite to have consistent navigation and style.

JIST
Publishing Web Site
and E-mail Campaigns
After
being hired at JIST Publishing as a copywriter, I was asked
to assist the Webmaster with a complete redesign of the Web
site. During 2005 and 2006, we planned and implemented five
usability studies, several surveys, and user group meetings.
The
JIST Publishing Web site is currently under development and
not yet released.
I
have also redesigned several E-newsletters and E-mail campaigns
for JIST. I cut down on extra copy and streamlined messages
so readers could find essential information quickly.

CD-ROM:
Real Estate Marketing
During
2005 I worked with a realtor to develop a unique way of marketing
one of the houses she was selling. This particular house was
a challenge to sell because of its high price and large property.
I created a CD-ROM tour of the house that potential buyers
could take with them after viewing the property. This CD-ROM
could also be passed along to other realtors with clients
who could become potential buyers. The CD-ROM was an HTML
tour of the house and property, featuring lots of large pictures.

Research
at IIT
Inventing
the Future Together is a report on research at IIT, highlighting
advances in basic and applied research, technology transfer,
and commercialization. My role in this project was to research
potential stories for this magazine, conduct interviews, write
and edit the stories, design the report, edit the photos,
and work with the printer. I designed this report using Quark,
and Adobe Photoshop.
This
research report was distributed to potential government and
non-government funding agencies, potential private donors
to IIT, as well as top university officials throughout the
United States. It was also used internally to inform the IIT
community about IIT's ongoing research initiatives.

Small-Talk
Ultra Brochure
This
brochure was designed to promote a new product being sold
by GW Micro. After discussions regarding target audiences
for the brochure and for the product, I redesigned an old
flyer and produced a 4-page, 4-color brochure. The brochure
was also designed to match the style of GW Micro's other brochures.
It is now being distributed at dozens of trade shows, conferences,
and sales meetings, as well as being mailed to potential customers.

International
Student Handbook
The
International Student Handbook is a guide for new
international students who will be attending IIT. This handbook
provides guidelines for obtaining a visa, advice for transitioning
to Chicago, Illinois, and helpful information about IIT offices
and student groups.
I
began this project almost immediately when I first joined
IIT in 2001. The handbook began as a few disjointed pieces
of paper and I edited them together into a handbook. The IIT
International Student Handbook is now distributed
to over 1000 new students each year at IIT.
