Marketing
Brochures
At
JIST Publishing, part of the marketing initiative included
monthly brochures to sell new products. These brochures had
lacked effectiveness in the past but I worked with the V.P.
of Marketing and graphic design team to create a standardized
design template and a stronger correlation between copy and
design. I was able to rewrite and edit copy to deliver a more
targeted and succinct message.

Catalogs
A
common complaint among customers and employees at JIST Publishing
was an ability to quickly locate and retrieve information
from their catalogs. I performed extensive usability testing,
collected customer feedback from surveys, and interviewed
employees to determine areas in need of improvement. I then
worked with the graphic design team to develop a strategy
for improving our catalogs. The result: a streamlined catalog
with clear, consistent headings, appealing design, and concise
copy.

Articles
To
support the efforts of the public relations team at JIST Publishing,
I wrote several press releases and articles to announce new
products and "soft sell" the most popular trade
books. One of my articles was recently featured on CNN.com
and several were used in media newsletters on www.jist.com.

Book
and Video Covers
To
support the Editorial and Video departments at JIST Publishing,
I was involved in writing cover copy for many of the books
and videos published from 2004-2006. This writing needed to
grab the attention of a browsing consumer, portray the strengths
of each product quickly, and maintain the reader's interest.

Instructions
and Guidelines
To
keep new and current students at the Illinois Institute of
Technology apprised of changes and updates to admission procedures
and graduation requirements, I edited the Graduate Student
Bulletin and created an International Student Handbook.
These pieces required careful writing because they contained
specific directions and legally binding contracts.

Marketing
Letters
During
2005-2006, I worked with JIST Publishing on several letter
campaigns to introduce new books to college professors for
classroom adoptions. These letters had to gain the interest
of the instructor, state the need of the product, and explain
how this product stood above the competition.

Fiction
During
the fall of 2000, I wrote a short story entitled Dream
Within a Dream, as an assignment in one of my courses,
studying the unreliable narrator. This prose piece was published
in the MT CUP Revue fall 2000 Journal.

Research
Report
and Articles
During
the spring of 2004, I directed an initiative within the Graduate
College at IIT, to inform the IIT community about IIT's research
projects, through Web and print publications. I researched
and conducted interviews; wrote and published several online
articles; and wrote, edited, and designed a comprehensive
report containing 27 articles called Inventing the Future
Together.
